"Getting to the root of the problem."

Updates: wordpress themes (2) - poll of the week

As usual, today I was watching the Tyra Show and today’s episode was about pedophiles. As some of you may or may not know, I am an aspiring psychologist that wants to specifically work with emotionally, mentally, and sexually abused children. I feel as though a lot of people who are sexually abused tend to keep it to themselves and do not get the treatment they need to overcome their obstacles. Since they’re children, they don’t even know how “wrong” it is because they are quite innocent and naive. I specifically want to work with children because if we help a problem in its earlier stages, we can prevent further things from occurring. Basically, I just want to help children realize that it’s okay (not what the sexual deviant did, ’cause it’s obviously not). It’s okay, you did not do anything wrong. I heard a woman on the show said that she kept it to herself because she felt dirty. I want children to know that they are not dirty and most of all it is not their fault. There’s no need to blame yourself.

Watching this episode, as well as shows like To Catch A Predator and Law & Order SVU helps me to gain insight on a predator’s perspective, you know? I’ve noticed that it just seems like MOST pedophiles have been sexually abused when they were younger, so somehow in their effed up mines, they reassure themselves that what they’re doing is okay. See, if these predators would’ve gotten the help THEY needed when they were younger, perhaps they would not have wound up allowing history to repeat itself. That’s why we need to help children, it all starts at the root.

I’ve decided that I am not going to force myself to update content wise. I have quite a few layouts in my photobucket but I just do not feel like coding them. I even have a lot of myspace layouts that are coded but I just don’t feel like putting them up. I’m growing weary of the free services offered on my site, so I may remove them. I am the worst e-mail responder. I have e-mails that need replying but I am beyond lazy. School is out for good so seriously, I am going to stop being so lazy with my site. Maybe I’ll add more interactive stuff and update those sections that are covered with cobwebs and dust. Eh, well this blog is getting long enough, peace!

"Where art thou gentlemen?"

Updates: free association - guess the celeb - poll of the week - picture captions (20)

EDIT (05-04-08): The free site layouts extensions are no longer .html, they are now .php so if you have any bookmarked or something, you won’t be able to access it with the .html extension. Also, I’ve added the captions, will get to the WP themes.

A few weeks ago I was on the shuttle bus conversing with a male friend of mines mine. The shuttle began to get full and students had to stand since there were no available seats. I told him it would be nice if he had given up his seat for a lady. He told me he would not do it for a stranger, but he’d do it for me. Yeah, that’s nice and all but I just really think it would have been a kind gesture to have done so. He was all like why should he have to give up his seat, blah blah blahhh. The way I’ve been raised, it is just what a gentleman does. Speaking of which, there aren’t too many gentlemen left. I know of a few, surprisingly. One of which is a really nice one. He waits until ALL of the ladies get on the bus before boarding. He opens up doors and he willingly gives up his seat- without being asked. He’s going to make a good husband to whomever he marries =].

Finals are almost over. I just have one left. I guess since I have some time on my hands, I’ll get back into the swing of things. Right now, only the interaction section has been updated but later on today, I will add a new wordpress theme for download (maybe even two) and some picture captions. I just have to finish coding the themes and finish adding my site’s name to the captions. Oh and for some odd reason, lately people have been stealing from me. Whether it’s actually stealing a layout/graphic, my WORDS, or my css and modifying it, it is still stealing nonetheless and I would appreciate if you thieves would stop. It is not hard at all to ask permission or credit. I WAS going to just quit updating content because it’s really discouraging when you find out people are stealing from you BUT, I’m not the type of person to “punish” everyone for a few bad apples.

"Something out of nothing."

Updates: new skin

Initially, I was going to post a blog about another topic but since this has been on my mind, I guess I will discuss it. Last night, I was in my room conversing with friends, having a good time. Somehow, we got on the subject of this Vogue cover that featured LeBron James & Giselle Bundchen. My friend told me that it was a racist cover. I laughed and said “Are you serious?” I told her when she first saw the cover she did not think that. She did not think that until some person engraved it in her mind (which was true). I personally don’t see it as being racist. Some articles like this & this are questioning the motives behind it and drawing parallels to King Kong.

It just seems like people are always trying to create an issue out of nothing (you want to discuss a REAL issue, then talk about the Sean Bell case). Athletes tend to be depicted as aggressive, right? Models tend to be depicted as elegant and dainty, right? The cover doesn’t seem like a fashion magazine, I think it was a poor choice in a cover BUT I don’t find it offensive. Did people even realize that perhaps they were going for something daring, out of the ordinary, eye catching to boost their sales? If Tyra Banks was cast as the model, would there still be a problem? If the athlete would have been… Hm, I can’t think of a White athlete at the moment because I’m not into sports lol. What if the races were even reversed? What if the athlete was White and the model was Black, what would people have to say then? Would they mention slavery and say how he looks like a slave master or something stupid like that? Probably so. Race IS salient in modern times but it just annoys me when people say everything little thing racist, when it is not. You may think the cover is racist, that’s perfectly fine with me - your opinion is your opinion. However, sometimes you have to learn how to think for yourself and not just hop on the bandwagon just because everyone else is…

So what do you think? Is the shape issue of Vogue magazine racist? Backing up your answer would be a plus lol. Meh, I am in a slump. I do not really feel like coding layouts & such. I am like at a point where I am enjoying the blogging as opposed to updating visitor content. I will be updating interactive things later on and will edit the blog accordingly.

Before I go, I’d like to let you know something about Mr. Talentified himself. Although he can’t reopen his site at the moment, John has still been designing. I strongly encourage you guys to go and visit his dA account and view his work and leave some feedback if able =]. You won’t be disappointed.
